Iris Baez

Food Services Supervisor
HHC/Seaview Hospital
Citywide Division

In 2007, Ms. Baez became a member of Local 237.  Earlier, she was a member of DC 37 – with a total of 37 years of city service, starting as a Dietary Aide. Ms. Baez has been a shop steward and attends chapter meetings. She says that being a union member “means a lot – it’s part of being a team. The union is always there when you need it, the benefits are great and the educational programs are wonderful.”

On the job, she enjoys meetings lots of different people. Staff become like family. “It is a good job, ” says Ms. Baez.

Ms. Baez shares the name Iris with her mother and daughter. She has two daughters and four grandchildren. She and her boyfriend Roberto, an electrician, have been a couple for 10 years.  She enjoys traveling. On a recent trip to Florida, she went on a jet ski for the first time! (and maybe the last)
