Public housing tenants asked a judge Wednesday to step in and make the Housing Authority comply with a year-old vow to clean up nasty mold from apartments.

Tenants say NYCHA has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by allowing mold to fester in apartments where adults and children with asthma live. In December 2013, NYCHA submitted to judicial oversight and vowed to fix things, but since then, tenants say repairs have been inadequate.

“The people who are supposed to be dealing with this are still ignoring the problem,” said the Rev. Getulio Cruz, a leader with the Metro Industrial Areas Foundation, the nonprofit behind the suit.

On Wednesday, lawyers asked Manhattan Federal Judge William Pauley to enforce the agreement, hold NYCHA in contempt and appoint a special master to oversee the agency’s day-to-day progress.
