Second Boy Brings Loaded Gun to Jamaica School This Week, NYPD Says

QUEENS — A 15-year-old boy brought a loaded gun to a Jamaica school just two days after another boy did so five blocks away, police said.

The boy carried his .38 mm revolver inside York Early College Academy at 108-35 167th St., near 108th Road, until school staff found out and told police who took him into custody about 9 a.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said.

He wasn't immediately arrested, but police are still investigating, the spokeswoman said. It wasn't clear why he brought the gun to school.

Just two days earlier and five blocks away, an 11-year-old boy brought a black Hi-Point 380 semiautomatic pistol loaded with a single bullet, that had been under his grandpa's bed, to P.S. 40 at 109-20 Union Hall, officials said.

He showed the gun to another boy who told school administrators who in turn notified police, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The boy was taken into custody, but not immediately charged, police said. During questioning, he said he knew how to load and unload the gun, prosecutors said.

It wasn't immediately clear why he brought the gun to school.

His grandfather, Kenneth Miley, 54, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and unauthorized possession of a pistol, prosecutors said.

Miley said the gun was stored under his bed in his 164th Street home, where the boy also lived, and that he'd planned on turning it in to the local NYPD precinct, prosecutors said.

Miley was previously arrested in August 1989 for selling drugs, prosecutors said.
