Police took a 13-year-old boy into custody Wednesday after he was caught bringing a gun into his Queens school building, officials said.

The Middle School 202 student was caught with a .22-caliber handgun in his backpack at about 11:30 a.m., law enforcement sources said.

Police said the boy brought the gun to school and showed it to a friend. The friend told school authorities, who alerted school safety agents.

The gun-toting student was taken to the 106th Precinct stationhouse for questioning with his parents. Charges were pending.

This is the fourth time since the start of the current academic year on Sept. 8 that a city student was busted bringing a gun to school. Law enforcement recovered nine guns from students in city schools during the 2015-16 school year.

School safety agents union president Greg Floyd said the incident shows that city schools need scanners to check students for weapons.

“Another day, another gun seized from a city school student,” Floyd said. “What will it take to make (Mayor) de Blasio understand we need scanners in schools?”

In September, de Blasio said the city is reviewing the use of metal detectors in public schools.

City Education Department spokeswoman Toya Holness said all students and staffers at the school are safe.

“The NYPD immediately responded to this troubling incident, and swiftly and safely confiscated the weapon,” Holness said.
