School-safety agent badly hurt when he’s hit by two cars

A school-safety agent was badly injured when two separate drivers struck him with their vehicles in The Bronx Tuesday morning, officials said.

Heriberto Lopez, 59, was on his way to work when he was hit by the first vehicle at East Tremont Avenue and Tan Place in Schuylerville at around 6 a.m., authorities said.

Lopez was crossing the street at the time after parking his personal vehicle, law-enforcement sources said.
He was then hit by at least one other car.

“The second vehicle hit him while he was already on the ground,” said Derek Jackson, the law-enforcement division director of Teamsters Local 237, the union that represents school safety agents.

Lopez, a safety agent at Lehman HS, was taken to Jacobi Hospital with head trauma, a spleen injury and a broken ankle, sources said.

He was undergoing surgery, sources said.
