16-Year-Old Boy Stabbed At Queens High School

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 16-year-old boy has been stabbed at a Queens high school.

It happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday at John Bowne High School in Flushing.

As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, there was an exchange of words, then fists, and the flash of a knife.

The teen was stabbed in his left side and was taken to NewYork–Presbyterian/Queens Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Three people, ages 18 and 17, have been taken into custody.

A student who identified himself as Matt, said it's not an uncommon occurrence.

"To be honest it was like a regular thing in New York, things like this happen," he said.

Gregory Floyd is with the union for school security and said it's time for the city make some changes.

"It's time for the mayor to stop playing politics and admit that we need metal detectors in the schools," he said.

Police said they recovered a three- to four-inch folding knife.

A city education official said security at the school will be reviewed.

The investigation is ongoing.
