The number of school suspensions issued between July and December 2019 dropped 20 percent compared to the same period a year earlier, according to Department of Education data released May 14, although the union leader representing School Safety Agents said that didn't necessarily mean student behavior had improved.
There were 10,014 suspensions meted out to students over the final six months of last year. The final six months of 2018 saw 12,461 suspensions.
