STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A fight at New Dorp High School Tuesday morning left multiple school safety agents with injuries and prompted numerous arrests, officials said.

The incident occurred at the school, located at 465 New Dorp Lane, between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., according to a spokesman for the NYPD.

Six students were involved in the fight, police said, while more than a dozen students surrounded them.

School safety agents came to try to break up the fight, the NYPD spokesman said, and suffered various injuries that included wounds to the elbows, shoulders and lips.

Phyllis Shafran, a spokeswoman for Teamsters Local 237, the union that represents school safety agents, said four school safety agents were injured in the incident. The extent of those agents’ injuries was not immediately available.

The NYPD said six students were arrested on disorderly conduct charges following the incident and were released to their parents.

The NYPD does not release the names of arrested minors.

“Violence has absolutely no place in our schools, SSAs and school staff immediately moved to intervene and stop this incident and no students were injured,” said Nathaniel Styer, a city Department of Education spokesman. “The school will engage all parties involved and administer the appropriate interventions, as needed.”
