Town Councilwoman Gordon Honored as a 'Hometown Hero'

Jacqueline Gordon is honored for her service on Town Board and as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.

Babylon Town Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon was honored by the Town of Babylon City Employees Union Local 237 on May 3 as a “Hometown Hero” for her accomplishments and service both here and abroad.

The ceremony was held at Martin A. Kessler VFW Post 2912 in Wheatley Heights, where Gordon is a member. Several other local officials attended the event to show their appreciation for Councilwoman Gordon, including Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Tom Donnelly, and Town Clerk Carol Quirk.

Gordon is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, where she has served proudly since 1984. In her nearly three decades of service, Gordon has been deployed to Germany as part of Operation Desert Storm, Guantanamo Bay, Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and most recently to Afghanistan in 2012.

As a member of the Town Board, Gordon serves as the chairperson for the Town’s Veterans Advisory Committee and organizes the Wounded Warrior Ride to help support injured service members.

In addition to her military service and her role on the Town Board, Gordon works as a guidance counselor at Wilson Technical Center in Huntington and is also involved in numerous community organizations including the Parent Leadership Initiative of the Town of Babylon, the Reserve Officers Association, Women for Women International, the Western Suffolk Counselor’s Association, and the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County.
