Labor United for Marriage Equality Press Conference

Prominent citywide and state labor leaders will rally their powerful support for the passage of a marriage equality bill by the New York State legislature.  

New York State AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes will kick off a press conference at City Hall on Wednesday, May 25th with RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, UFT President Michael Mulgrew, Teamsters Local 237 President Gregory Floyd, Eastern Regional Vice-President of Actors’ Equity Association (and former Miss America) Kate Shindle, and affiliates of the New York City Central Labor Council as labor leaders call on New York State legislators to enact marriage equality.

The labor principals will be joined by Louis Bradbury, a co-chair of the Empire State Pride Agenda, and the organization’s Executive Director Ross Levi.

Hercules Cornish: Caretaker J Stores Man

Herclules CornishHercules Cornish went to work for the Housing Authority as a caretaker J in 1952 and retired 24 years later as a stores worker. He died the year following this interview, which was conducted in June 1999.

Originally I was from Harlem, but when I came out of the service in 1945 my wife had moved to the Bronx, so I moved there, too. I went to work for the New York City Housing Authority in 1952.
