I began working 01-03-1966 at the East River Houses as a Teller. I transferred from the New York City Corrections Department. My tenure there was 02-05-62 to 12-31-65. I do not remember if I was in a union while employed by the NYCCD and I do not remember which housing project I was in or the year I joined the union.

But what I do remember—Union dues were being garnished every payday. Then we were given the choice to decide if we wanted the union to deduct dues or we could have more “take home” pay. I opted for more “take home” pay.

The union took the matter to court and won.

Well, now in 2002 I consider that one of the best things that happened for me because of the pension check and other benefits that help me so much. That is Brotherhood
