Dear Brothers and Sisters:

This is a very difficult time for all Americans, but especially for those delivering vital public services on the front lines of the New York City pandemic crisis.  The Governor, Mayor and Police Commissioner activated a protocol for all essential personnel to report to work.  The vast majority of Local 237 members, working in the Citywide, Housing and Law Enforcement divisions, are the indispensable employees who will keep the City functioning during the COVID-19 emergency.

There will be no “business as usual” for the foreseeable future.  During this emergency, Local 237 members are being asked to perform new duties.

The Union is aware of all changes in assignments and directives (including shift changes, tour and precinct changes and job duties).  We will continue to express our concerns to the City, the NYPD, The Department of Homeless Services and the Department of Education, as well as Health+Hospitals, NYCHA and CUNY, and to advocate for your rights, including health and safety issues.

We are aware of the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and delayed distribution.  We continue to bring it to the attention of the public and City leaders and to demand adequate supplies and that proper health & safety protocols be followed.   This is all the more challenging given the statewide shortage of supplies and the ever-changing directives at every level of government.

The fact remains that we are all operating in a state of emergency.   The City and various agencies and departments are going to use workers in new capacities outside the scope of our usual jobs.

While we have been required to close our union office, Local 237 officers and staff continue to work on your behalf around the clock.  We are here for you. Do not hesitate to reach out to your union representatives with any questions or concerns.

I ask that you to stay safe and informed.  Check our website for the latest updates, information and resources available to you and your family.

Just like the 9/11 and Super storm Sandy disasters, our members continue to go above and beyond the call of duty.  Too often, your sacrifices go unrecognized.  I want you to know that I admire the courage and selflessness that our members are demonstrating and personally thank each and every Local 237 member for your dedication.

In Solidarity,

Gregory Floyd

President, Teamsters Local 237
