Beginning, March 17th, the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to additional employees who fit within the criteria established by New York State.

The following groups of workers are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine:

  • Public-facing government and public employees
  • Not-for-profit workers who provide public-facing services to New Yorkers in need
  • Essential in-person public-facing building service workers

The following categories of workers have been eligible since, January 11th if they report to an in-person location and are unable to physically distance:

Teachers and Education workers

  • Employees working in-person at schools, such as teachers, school food workers, school nurses, paraprofessionals, school speech therapists, school behavioral health
  • providers, principals, assistant principals, custodial staff, and School Safety Agents.
  • Childcare providers, including DOE school aides and ACS education support staff.

First responders

  • NYPD employees, including Police Officers and Police Communication Technicians.
  • FDNY employees, including Firefighters and Dispatchers.
  • DOC employees, including Correction Officers o Parks enforcement employees such as Urban Park Rangers and Parks Enforcement Patrol.
  • Child protective workers.

Public Safety Workers

  • Criminal justice workers, including Correction Officers, ACS detention workers and Probation Officers
  • Security personnel, including Special Officers and other peace officers.

Public transit workers

  • NYPD Transit Bureau staff
  • DOT Ferry workers.

Congregate Shelter staff

  • DHS Shelter employees

Agencies will be contacting eligible employees at their agency to inform them of their eligibility.

The City has implemented a Time and Leave Policy to ensure getting a COVID vaccine is as easy as possible, including up to 2 hours of excused leave to receive the vaccine, excused time off for side effects from the vaccine, and 3 hours of comp time upon receipt of both doses.

Individuals being vaccinated must bring proof of eligibility to the vaccination site. This could include an employee ID card, a letter from an employer, or a pay stub.
