"There are quite a few pending NYC Council Introductions and Resolutions of interest to Local 237.

Band Scoring
One of the more important resolutions, Resolution No. 76, which was sponsored by City Council Members Amanda Farias and Farah Louis, called on Citywide Administrative Services to use the band scoring method for establishing eligibility for competitive civil service titles.
    Instead of basing hiring decisions on a choice among the three highest scoring candidates – the 1-in-3 rule – band scoring establishes a statistically equivalent range – between 96-100 for example. Supporters of band scoring believe it expands the diversity of the hiring pool. Many labor unions have come out against it because the more likely outcome is a surge in nepotism and favoritism in hiring decisions. The objection of labor lead to the resolution being laid over in committee or postponing any action on it.

What a tremendous night, honoring great members at our Annual Everyday Hero’s Event. 200 members and their families, co-workers and friends enjoyed it. We were honored to have prolabor elected officials, Congressman Tom Suozzi, Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature Kevin McCaffrey, Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin and Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer. "Summertime and the Livin’ is Easy", las famosas palabras de apertura del clásico de ópera de George Gershwin, Porgy and Bess, con letra escrita por DuBose Heyward e Ira Gershwin, retrata musicalmente el verano como un momento para deshacernos del blues invernal. Es cuando alivianamos nuestra vestimenta, y con algo de suerte también nuestro espíritu. El verano es un momento para recargar energías, reabastecerse de combustible, relajarse y volver a conectarse con familiares y amigos. Es cuando muchos de nosotros tomamos un merecido "R&R"... "descanso y relajación". Es cuando los días son más largos... y cambiamos el termostato, de "calor" a "aire acondicionado". Parece que hay más tiempo para hacer las cosas que amamos sin la preocupación de que una tormenta de nieve pueda cancelarlo todo. Para muchos, el sol del verano trae calma y optimismo, reemplazando así la tristeza y la fatalidad de algunas experiencias durante las noches a menudo largas y frías del invierno.
