I was 26 years old.Did you have another job prior to working for the City of New York?Just a summer youth.What was that like?It was interesting because it taught me to be responsible getting up in the morning and helping others. It was taking care of children, like being a counselor. We used to go on trips and bring them back to the location safe and sound.Was this in the City Parks Department?No, this was a community center. Sometimes I had to do some work in church, clean up the church, help out. It's justto earn some money during my summer youth between 14 years old till about 17.So, it wasn't until you were 26 that you got the job for the City of New York?Yes, yes. I worked for the New York City Housing Authority.What was the location of your first job working for the city?Morrisania Air Rights. That's in the Bronx. New York. I was a Caretaker J.Why did you decide to go work for the City of New York with the New York City Housing Authority?I am a single parent, so I needed to work. I was living in the Hill Houses then. I went to make my rent payment and I noticed a posting for Caretaker J. I went and I applied. I took the exam and four years later, they hired me. I had to take an obstacle course, lifting weights. I had to lift up a bag of 100 pounds, then go up an obstacle course with a wheelbarrow, climb stairs, put on a lightbulb. That was the last exam they had for Caretaker J, for civil service title.134 "
