b"And youre talking kids. In one building, that kid throw everything in. I used to pull the weirdest things out of the bathtub, out of the toilet.I would have to take the whole toilet up to push it out the same way it came in, to push it outthe top because I couldn't catch it from the top with my snakes. I had to lift the bowl up, flip it over and push out the object. The kid was just playing and dropped a toy in there and flushed the toilet to watch it go down, so it got jammed in the sweep on the bowl what are you going to do? Do you have any stories about some of the more interesting or scary or strange things that you encountered inthese buildings?Well, I was the man to open the door if they didn't see you for a while. They would tell me: Come on, Joe, you got todrill out a lock. So, I used to go: Okay. So, I used to drill out the lock. A family calls the main office up from, say, Texas. Please look. I didn't hear from my mother and she's, 87-years-old;can you please check on her, please? So, I used to go upstairs drill off the lock; we'll put another cylinder in, in case.Sometimes I open it and the chain would be on. I said: Whoever is in there, Im coming inside. I'm telling you, and I hope they arent on the floor.I used to cut the chain and go in. Sometimes they'd be dead on the floor or, sometimesthey'd be dead in the bedroom, sometimes they would be dead in the bathtub. How many dead bodies I walked in onwas unbelievable. One time [there was] a guy in Vladeck [Houses]We had nail guns to put up ceilings, they call itheaders. You hit them with a hammer and they used to go [explosion sound]. One guy was standing next to me and hehit it, and there was an old guy standing behind me. All of a sudden, I see the old guy drop and I said: What happened? The guy died from the noise [explosion sound], the guy dropped dead right there on the floor next to me, I went Holy cr ! They sent the guy home that was doing the work; they told me if I wanted to go home [I could].I says: I don't needto go home, but I'm not going back in that apartment. But I saw some things forget it, dead bodies. There was a murdercase in Straus that they cut a whole section of the wall out because the guys got murdered in there or something. Who were some of the more interesting tenants that were alive? The ones that were alive were interesting. Sometimes they could talk back to me. Sometimes I went to an apartmentand the person was down and I hear them: Im in the back room. You hear them real low and I said: Holy shit, the ladysin the back room. The cops used to be there because they never let me go in first, they always went in first. One time I saw a guy robbing a lady. He tied her up on the floor and he put her in the corner. I was checking elevators and I cameup and I saw him come out with her TV in a stroller. I said: Damn, that's Barbara's TV and stuff, I know that old lady. He got in on 16, her floor and went down, I said: Let me go back up again and just check. So, I went upstairs and I checked her door and sure enough her door was open. I called the supervisor. I said: You got to come up with me.I open the door and there she was with duct tape around her mouth, cuffed behind the thing and everything. I said: Oh, my god. I went in right away and I pulled the tape off her mouth. The cops had me down at the station. They made a whole big thing out of it. The lady kept saying a guy with a blue uniform done it. It wasn't a guy with a blue uniform, I was the guy that took the tape off her mouth. Lucky the supervisor was there. The guy that did it was a guy that had ajacket with an 8-ball or something in the back of it, a Black guy, I seen him going out [with a] green and beige jacket,I seen him taking her TV out of the place, so I was trying to tell her, and then after a while I guess she got confused. She saw me come in and take off the tape, so she thought maybe I was the one. The supervisor said: No, no, no.76 "
