True was the director of Teamster Local 237 Retiree Division from 1993 to 2019after serving for six years as the divisions first retiree assistance coordinator and oneyear as assistant director. Over her career, she oversaw the Retiree Divisions numerousservices, programs and activities, impacting the lives of thousands of union membersand their families.In 1993, Ms. True initiated the Teamster Local 237 Oral History Projectto preserve the history of the union. The project involves interviewing retired members,founders and builders of the union and collecting union artifacts. Today, the Local has a significant archive of union memorabilia and photos as well as hundreds of recorded and transcribed interviews of retirees about their experiences as members of TeamsterLocal 237. Ms. Trues goal was to recognize and preserve the struggles, accomplishmentsand the relationships of its members that make Local 237 so special so that those whocome along after know what the founders and builders of the union who came beforethem went through. Without Ms. Trues commitment to this project, this collection of oral histories would not exist. This book is dedicated to Nancy B.
